Colossians 3:23-24

Colossians 3:23-24

“Whatever you do, work at it with all you heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. “Colossians-3-23-24

Do you get an allowance? Maybe there are certain chores for which you receive an incentive to complete?

If so, how does that allowance motivate you to do the chore your parents have assigned to you?

What happens if you don’t receive an allowance or incentive? Will you still complete the task?  Will your motivation or attitude change?

What if I told you that God doesn’t want our motivation to come from our parent’s reward? God doesn’t want us to need an allowance or paycheck to finish an assignment or task.

Why? Because God provides a much better reward if we work hard at everything we do! God’s incentive to do what we have been told to do is better than any allowance our parents can give us. He gives us joy, peace, love now and an eternity in heaven forever with rewards words cannot even describe!

That’s why scripture says to work for your parents, teachers and bosses as if you are working for Jesus Christ. Jesus gave His life for us. That’s enough to motivate similar sacrifical behavior from you and I.

When we as Christians work hard to receive the reward from God, we glorify Him.

God knows we will do for Him what we won’t do for each other. When others see us working hard without even an incentive they may ask us why. We can share our faith in Jesus Christ at that time. They may want to experience a reward that surpasses an allowance too!

Would you trade in your allowance for a reward in heaven? How long is heaven compared to the time we have to enjoy our allowance on earth?

Read 2 Corinthians 9:6. How does this motivate you to work for Christ rather than working for your earthly bosses (parents, teachers, employers, etc.)?

Choose a task and commit to doing it as if Jesus Himself has asked you. What task did you choose? Write a brief journal entry about the experience and share with your family.
